Endearing 5 piece band featuring the mighty song writing talents of charismatic front man Gerry Colvin. ColvinQuarmby play "refreshingly different acoustic music". “A courageously sparse, stripped down and entirely solo work” – MOJO“

20th Rafiki Jazz + DJs: Hare & Hounds 8.30pm £8 adv

The fiery Swahili taarab singing of Zanzibari Real World recording artist Mim Suleiman, bossa-jazz singer Rosie Brown’s cool liquid vocals & Vanessa Chutturghoon’s sultry creole stylings create an electrifying front line, whilst a daring combination of cultural instruments - kora, marimba, tabla, steeldrums, atabaque.. all propel a thoroughly current sound from a world where beatbox meets berimbau and Brazil greets Banjul.

22nd Roots2fruit project:Africa meets Kurdish music & dance workshop with Kudaushe Matimbah (Harare/Bhundu Boys) and Pasha :Friends Institue, Moseley 7pm £3 on door

24th Geoff Farina and Chris Brokaw + support Michael L. Clamp : Hare & Hounds 7.30pm £6 adv

The pair will launch the release of their first album together, “The Angel’s Message To Me” out in the UK in March! They will play 2 sets , featuring a magnificent journey through their combined back catalogues, culminating in material from the new album. Expect to be awe struck!

27th Lauren Pritchard + support Little Palm: Kitchen Garden Cafe 7.30 pm £5 adv

Debut album ‘Wasted In Jackson’ produced by Eg White highlights include the raspy, R&B-meets-gospel swagger of Not The Drinking and When The Night Kills The Day, a haunting, bluesy shuffle featuring the eerie sound of an ancient Steinway piano belonging to Ed Harcourt (who co-wrote the song) and the elegant playing of hip young folkslingers Mumford And Sons (whose frontman Marcus Mumford produced the song)

Anna Palmer aka "Little Palm" has been gracing us with her quirky piano licks and haunting melodies and lyrics at local gigs in Birmingham for the past two years, recently she joined Birmingham band Tantrums sharing vocals and playing keys. Anna still intends to play occasional acoustic gigs as Little Palm in her own unique style so we’re really pleased she’ll be with us tonight at Kitchen Garden Cafe

28th Music Room: Goodnight Lenin, Katy Lied, Grace & The Magic Roots 7.30pm £3 on door

Another superb Music Room line up, great atmosphere, all seated, candles & 3 great live sets.

‘Drenched in vocal harmonies that nod by turns toward melancholy Americana and also more British, possibly even Celtic folk influences, the music of Goodnight Lenin has garnered much deserved praise since the band first appeared in the latter part of 2009. Offering a credible, captivating alternative to the current fluff that has pounced on the success of bands like Fleet Foxes (I'm looking at you, Mumford and Sons), the year ahead promises to be a great one for this very individual Birmingham act’.

Katy Lied are big on classic songwriting values, and come carrying a blast of Americana and roots-rock, all shot through with a pop sensibility, sharp lyrics and radio-friendly hooks to die for. Echo Games by Katy Lied: Not to be missed album of my year!! Maverick

Grace & the Magic Roots are an acoustic three-piece playing original songs. Their unique style encompasses roots reggae, alt-folk, and gutsy blues, with accompaniment by world scales on mandola and cello; this is a band not to be missed!
