Rajasthan is also the original land of the gypsies, who centuries ago became troubadours and wandering musicians, poets, dancers and fakirs travelling endlessly around north-western India to entertain princes and their courtiers. The Dhoad Gypsies are the inheritors of that rich tradition, creating passionate music of majestic climaxes, punctuated by gentle gestures and enchanting tunes in songs which tell of epic heroism of their forefathers. The troupe all come from Rajasthan, but are drawn from different communities, religions (Muslim and Hindu) and castes. Together they create a magical extravaganza of breathtaking sound enhanced by a whirlwind of glittering, shimmering colours and dance. 13th Marcus Malone Band: Hare & Hounds 7.30pm £8 adv New monthly Blues Night ! April 1st Mapenda and Takander Group + DJs Pa Goree and Sowe Pullo.: Hare & Hounds 7.30pm £8 adv Mapenda is a 'Wolof' Griot Mbalax Star from Senegal, who honed his skills in Orchestra Baobab at the height of their success in the late 70s, before teaming up with his Internationally renowned Star elder brother Thione Seck to form Raam Daan . The Blues Hound Club Stan Webb is recognised high in the top ten of British blues guitarists. He started Chicken Shack in 1965 and within two years they were topping the charts with‘I’d Rather Go Blind.’Stan’s style owes much to his friend and mentor, the legendary Freddie King, who inspired Stan Webb's delicate vibrato and sustain, and above all else his emotive blues tone. Aside from a stint with Canned Heat (the only UK guitarist to ever play with them) and Savoy Brown, Stan continues to tour Chickenshack in Europe and occasionally in the UK. 14th Wild Willy Barrett’s French Connection: Kitchen Garden Café 7.30pm £10 adv Once described as 'the Godfather of grunge folk', multi-instrumentalist Wild Willy Barrett says he is currently undergoing a musical metamorphosis - is this the birth of 'Mild Milly' Barrett? Not very likely! The reason for this bold statement stems from the birth of his new band: Wild Willy Barrett's French Connection, who have already started to make waves in France having appeared on French breakfast TV (France 3). Inspired by Parisian Mary-Laure’s stunning vocals, which add a touch of ‘chic’ and real warmth to the ensemble, the band's original blend of material is difficult to put into a box. If you are looking for a group within a set genre performing covers, forget it. However, if you are looking for a truly original performance full of fun, dry humour and the unexpected, with full-on fiddle, banjo and Irish pipes interspersed with haunting vocals, cello, and guitar (all overlaid with that french 'je ne sais quoi'), then you could do a lot worse. www.wildwillybarrett.com May 8th Giles Robson and the Dirty Aces: Hare & Hounds 7.30pm £8 adv "A phenomenal talent.... Robson is leading the way in both popularizing the harmonica for the young generation and satisfying established blues fans who just love to hear a harp maestro at the top of his game". Blues Revue USA It's like The Ramones and Dr Feelgood meets the Black Keys, Jack White and Gary Clark Jr. New album ‘From The Basement due soon ‘ this is very much Giles Robson and The Dirty Aces - a band - and they really are holding a winning hand.
